    This visa is for young adults who want an extended holiday and to work here to fund it.

    First Working Holiday visa

    Features

    This visa lets people 18 to 30 years old (inclusive) – and Canadian, French and Irish citizens 18 to 35 years old (inclusive) – have their first extended holiday in Australia and work here to help fund their trip.

    You can do short-term work in Australia to help pay for your holiday

    You can study for up to 4 months

    You can travel to and from Australia as many times as you want.

    You can do 3 months of specified work to become eligible for a second Working Holiday visa.

    Length of stay

    12 months

    You must be a citizen of and hold a valid passport from one of these countries/jurisdictions:

    Belgium
    Canada
    Republic of Cyprus
    Denmark
    Estonia
    Finland
    France
    Germany
    Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People’s Republic of China (including British National Overseas passport holders)
    Republic of Ireland
    Italy
    Japan
    Republic of Korea
    Malta
    Netherlands
    Norway
    Sweden
    Taiwan (other than an official or diplomatic passport)
    The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland

    Be this age

    You must be 18 to 30 years old (inclusive) – except for Canadian, French and Irish citizens who can be 18 to 35 years old (inclusive).

    Previous visas

    You must not have previously entered Australia on a:

    Working Holiday visa (subclass 417)

    Work and Holiday visa (subclass 462)

    Have enough money

    You must have enough money to:

    support yourself while you are in Australia

    leave Australia at the end of your stay

    This is usually about AUD5,000 for your initial stay, plus the fare to where you are going after leaving Australia.

    You must meet health requirement.

    Meet the character requirement

    You must meet character requirement.

    Not have had a visa cancelled or a previous application refused

    You might not be eligible for this visa if you have had a visa cancelled or refused while you were in Australia.

    Second Working Holiday visa

    Features

    This visa lets people 18 to 30 years old (inclusive) – and Canadian, French and Irish citizens 18 to 35 years old (inclusive) – who currently hold, or who have held, a Working Holiday visa, have a second working holiday in Australia.

    You can do short- term work in Australia to help pay for your holiday.

    You can study for up to 4 months.

    You can travel to and from Australia as many times as you want.

    You can do 6 months of specified work to become eligible for a third Working Holiday visa.

    Length of stay

    12 months

    have complied with all the conditions on your first Working Holiday visa

    support yourself while you are in Australia

    leave Australia at the end of your stay

    This is usually about AUD5,000 for your initial stay plus the fare to where you are going when you leave Australia.

    Specified work

    You must have completed 3 months of specified work while on your first Working Holiday visa.

    Be this age

    You must be 18 to 30 years old (inclusive) – except for Canadian, French and Irish citizens who can be18 to 35 (inclusive).

    leave Australia at the end of your stay.

    This is usually about AUD5,000 for your initial stay, plus the fare to where you are going after leaving Australia.

    Specified work

    You must have completed 6 months of specified work while holding your second Working Holiday visa or a bridging visa that came into effect when your second Working Holiday (subclass 417) visa expired. All work must have been carried out on or after 1 July 2019.

    Be this age

    You must be 18 to 30 years old (inclusive) – except for Canadian, French and Irish citizens who can be18 to 35 years old (inclusive).
